UN PROYECTO QUE SE CONSOLIDA ENTRE

GLASSBIJOUX – MURANO ART GLASS – FUNDACIÓN PROYECTO AVE

Dos años de ensayos, errores y muchos aciertos son el balance que arroja la Estación Biológica de la Fundación Proyecto AVE ubicada en Los Andes venezolanos en materia de agricultura orgánica y producción sustentable.

Desde allí se adelantan proyectos orientados a la producción de cultivos orgánicos y a la crianza de animales libres de antibióticos, una iniciativa que busca promover en la zona modelos de desarrollo sostenibles y eco-respetuosos con la diversidad biológica.

Cabe resaltar que la Estación Biológica de Proyecto AVE está ubicada en un ecosistema de bosque seco andino, el cual ha sido seriamente diezmado en los últimos 50 años para darle paso al cultivo de flores ornamentales, un cultivo que en la zona se caracterizaba por el uso indiscriminado de pesticidas químicos y abonos granulados.

Desde el año 2014 por razones que no vienen al caso citar en este reportaje, desaparecieron los pesticidas industriales y en general la mayoría de los insumos agrícolas que la comunidad solía usar para el cultivo de flores, ello trajo como consecuencia una depresión económica que arrasó con el sustento de la mayoría de los productores locales, razón por la cual, Fabian Passariello, Vice-Presidente de la Fundación Proyecto AVE decidió tomar cartas en el asunto e iniciar un proyecto experimental que contribuyera, en primera instancia, a promover un cambio de visión entre los productores locales.

Desde las tierras de la Fundación, se dio inicio a una serie de ensayos orientados al enriquecimiento de los suelos con componentes orgánicos, un primer paso fundamental para demostrarle a los campesinos locales que el camino hacia la agricultura sostenible pasa ineludiblemente por entender que los suelos son seres vivos y como tal hay que tratarlos.

Bajo la premisa: “ solo un suelo enriquecido biológicamente, puede dar resultados a corto, mediano y largo plazo” se emprendió esta tarea titánica de desprogramar a los locales de la falsa creencia de que sin química no hay producción, fueron meses de trabajo de compostaje de los residuos vegetales de la misma cocina, pasando por el uso del estiércol de distintos animales de la zona para así comenzar a producir un abono 100% orgánico y comenzar a enriquecer estos suelos que de por si en su mayoría son de PH ácido.

El primer paso fue como citaba, quitarles el chip a Daniel y Alida, los locales que se encargan de la administración y tareas culturales de las tierras de la Estación Biológica, quienes durante más de 30 años habían cultivado flores como todos los nativos del lugar y convencerlos de las bondades que suponen el empleo de los residuos orgánicos como elemento vital para la recuperación de los suelos.

ESTACIÓN BIOLÓGICA PROYECTO AVE

Una vez cumplido el objetivo de producir abonos orgánicos e incorporarlos para enriquecer los suelos, se procedió a elaborar los primeros semilleros de hortalizas, tales como: Brócoli, Col de Bruselas, Pimentón , Uchuva, Cebollín, Papa, ají Picante y Dulce, entre otros.

Se hizo una revisión bibliográfica a través de libros de consulta e internet y se identificaron una serie de fórmulas para elaborar purines hechos a base de plantas locales y se procedió a fumigar con ellos, allí fue el momento en el que comenzó a ponerse a prueba meses de disertaciones teóricas sobre las posibles formas de cultivar sin tener que recurrir a los productos químicos desaparecidos en ese entonces.

Los resultados fueron muy alentadores y así se dio inicio al proceso de demostración interna del modelo propuesto, fueron días de júbilo y de un renacer entre los que impulsábamos este proyecto, comenzábamos a obtener resultados maravillosos, plantas vigorosas, con frutos de buen tamaño y un porcentaje de pérdida bastante bajo.

Los resultados se hicieron virales en la zona, en muy poco tiempo varios agricultores locales comenzaron a desfilar por las instalaciones de la Estación Biológica a pedir asesoría y desde entonces, desde ese pequeño oasis, se han impartido decenas de talleres de inducción a la agricultura orgánica y se ha venido sembrado la visión de una agricultura eco- respetuosa y por encima de todo sostenible.

Obviamente hay mucho por hacer aún y esta iniciativa apenas es un intento de contribuir a un cambio de visión y de motorizar un proyecto que intente revertir años de una cultura campesina que veía a la tierra como un simple sustrato y no como un ser vivo como en realidad es.

Fabian nos cuenta como  a través del conocimiento y los resultados, logra transformar los procedimientos y creencias más básicas sobre el cultivo de la tierra de toda una comunidad de campesinos que hasta el día de hoy, se apoyaban en métodos no tan anticuados pero agresivos para nuestra vida y la de nuestro entorno.

La reducción total y absoluta de químicos para cultivar alimentos, es un objetivo alcanzado,
